As “veneer” one can describe thin wooden sheets (0.5 to 6 mm), which are produced using different technique (peeling, cutting) and are further used for different purposes. For fabrication of veneer baskets, boxes and similar containers peeled veneer is used.
Veneer is peeled from logs, which must be cut to specified length. Almost all veneer is peeled on a lathe. Rotary lathes produce a continuous ribbon of veneer with the thickness of 0.7- 2.5 mm. After peeling veneer is cut. Knives of special machine cut veneer to width into smaller single bands to allow further assembly of baskets and containers.
Despite that veneer production uses today modern technology, production of veneer baskets and containers requires extensive experience and high professional hands skill. Only experienced personnel can achieve the balance between the quality of products and the amount of the produced items.
